This is about as good a record as you'll find and unfortunately, the sound is underwhelming for such a hot show. For me, it took some of the 'punch' of
...
of the performance.
This era has been fun to explore... I love hearing Brent's synth and vocal contributions to songs that were written before he joined the band.

To the previous reviewer - that's Flora Purim, a Brazilian jazz singer. Her husband, Aito Moreria, a percussionist, also played during the drums with Billy
...
and Micky. This was GD show #10 for me and I was on the fence as far as the Dead. Well, we dosed this day and the 2nd set locked me in for the next 100+ shows!

I was suddenly struck by this segment of this particular show, nice laid back intensity. Question: Whose female voice is that in drums section, toward
...
the end? Sound incredible with the rest of the band.

Subject: Jerry On FIRE!
The whole show Jerry is in complete command of his craft on the guitar. All his muscle memory is executing flawlessly and he is fired up with outstanding
...
intention behind his lead lines. need evidence? Likely the best Ramble on Rose ever! And Help slip Jerry is flawless throughout. Firstly, his tone here is impeccable with just the right amount of dirt yet still chimey and earthy. Secondly, his break is one constant stream of perfectly articulated ideas all pre heard and sung from deep within his soul magically emerging from his fret board. There isn't a single section in slipknot where Jerry's musical concepts drift into uncertainty or confusion. Certainly the band new this. When Jerry was on they were wise enough to capitalize on that fully. On nights like this Jerry is really more like a singer that happens to be vocalizing through his guitar.

I find 1983 to be a bit like 1979, or 1971. Some great stuff from time to time, but there is something missing when compared to a year or two earlier.
...
It is unrealistic to think that the creativity would flow consistently so this is not a denigration of 1983, simply an observation. As we know now, there were external influences at play that would soon lead to some dark days, and then some brighter, before the light ultimately went out.

Subject: The Best Show I Saw!
I was junior at Occidental College in LA and a bunch took a road trip up to Berkeley for the fabulous three day musical sojourn at The Greek 5/13-5/15,
...
1983. The weather was perfect and the band sizzled with an indomitable intensity. All three days were off-the-charts fabulous, but they reached their zenith on this magical Sunday.
Pre-show tripping through Haight-Ashbury set the tone for what was to come....my oh my.
The first set saw the boys revving their engines. I distinctly remember the Cassidy being glorious and the Looks Like Rain being incredulously surrealistic on such a hot, sunny day with no clouds in the sky.
It was the second set which blew my mind along with the liquid break in between sets. The 22 min Help-Slipknot-Franklins was pure magic and sent the audience into orbit. While the post-Space selection is far from my favorite, the zeal in which it was delivered blew us away.
Such good times. The fact that it was 31 years freaks me out to no end, but to have been a part of this show and to have had my spirit raised to the heavens makes me beyond grateful!

It's embarrassing when Jerry can't play the melody to Happy Birthday.
